Colorado's Climate and Amish Furniture
With the generally high elevation of Colorado and the cold snow filled winters solid wood Amish furniture can be a bit of a challenge to maintain and care for. The higher you are the drier the air is and the colder it is the drier the air is. Hmmmm... I'm starting to see a pattern here. In other words buy lots of humidifiers and treat you furniture with lots of lemon or orange oil every 3 weeks or so.If you live in the higher elevations in the western part of the state near Grand Junction, Steamboat Springs or Montrose The winters can be brutally on your solid wood furniture. If the temperture drops below zero go for broke and crank up a couple of humidifers and treat your furniture once a week with lemon or orange oil. The area around Denver does seem to get as cold as often so the standard once a month oil treatments and generally keeping an eye on the humidity should keep your Amish furniture safe. Out east on the plains around Lamar, Burlington or Sterling it's pretty dry all the time so keep the humidifier full year round and pay more attention to the oil treatments during the winter months
